Dear SEDOL Community,
With recent unanimous approval from both the SEDOL Executive and Governing Boards, we are very excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Jennifer Thomas as the new Superintendent of SEDOL, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Thomas currently serves as the interim Superintendent for Cary CCSD 26 this year after serving as Assistant Superintendent of Special Services and Instruction in the same district for the past nineteen years. In her various leadership roles, Dr. Thomas has focused on advancing her passion for special education, guiding processes in special services and evolving important focus areas of social/emotional learning.
Dr. Thomas received her Doctorate in Education in 2019 from Aurora University and before many years in leadership, began her educational career as a school psychologist.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Lind, SEDOL Executive Board member, shared that "Dr. Jennifer Thomas is an outstanding choice to lead SEDOL. She arrives with a well-established history of successful educational leadership and a genuinely thoughtful, welcoming demeanor. What truly sets her apart is her profound commitment to, and shared passion for, providing the very best education for the exceptional students we proudly serve."
Dr. Stephen Mack, SEDOL Governing Board President, indicated, “Dr. Thomas brings a deep dedication to serving exceptional children with exceptional needs and a leadership style grounded in collaboration, clarity, and compassion. Her focus on empowering students, supporting staff, and strengthening partnerships makes her the right leader for the SEDOL community.”
Dr. Jennifer Thomas, via video message, shared her appreciation for this honor and is “eager to listen, learn, and collaborate as we move forward.”
