Behavioral Specialists
Who are Behavioral Specialists?
Behavioral Specialists act as a resource for educational teams as they assist students in establishing new patterns of behavior to meet their needs in healthier and more productive ways. They work cooperatively with classroom staff and related service providers to determine the purpose behind the “problem” behaviors in order to develop strategies to encourage students to utilize alternative behaviors that will be more successful.
What do behavioral specialists do at SEDOL?
Building-Based Behavioral Specialists are assigned to specific SEDOL buildings to assist the staff within those buildings to address the behavioral needs of the students they serve.
District-Wide Behavior Specialists work with SEDOL Sector classrooms and SEDOL schools that do not have a Behavior Specialist assigned to them, and partner with Building-Based Behavior Specialists when requested to provide an additional tier of support. Additionally, they provide systems level professional development to SEDOL staff, including Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Ukeru training.
