Hearing Aid Issues

Problem #1: My hearing aid is not producing any sound

  • Replace the battery and make sure that the batteries are new

  • Check to make sure there is no wax blocking any of the surfaces of the hearing aid or earmold

  • Open and close the battery door OR turn the hearing aid off and back on

Problem #2: My hearing aid is not loud enough

  • Visually examine the hearing aid to make sure there is no wax blocking any of the surfaces of the hearing aid or earmold

  • Change the battery

Problem #3: My hearing aids are whistling

  • Remove the hearing aid and re-insert it into your ear

  • Make sure the seal of the earmold is tight and there are no cracks in the earmold

  • You may have wax in your ear canals that should be removed by a physician

Problem #4:  How do I clean my hearing aids?

  • Wear gloves when cleaning hearing aids.

  •  When handling behind-the-ear hearing aids, clean the hearing aid surface with wet wipes that don't contain alcohol. This is because they are coated with a hydrophobic coating that is sensitive to alcohol.

  • For in-the-ear hearing aids, all kinds of wet wipes can be used for cleaning the hearing aids' surface.

  • An alternative to wet wipes is cleaning with a mild soap solution on a hard-twisted cotton cloth. Avoid using excess water that can enter the hearing aids.

  • After cleaning, discard the gloves and wash your hands carefully with soap and water or with a suitable alcohol disinfectant.

  • Let your cleaned hearing aids dry for one hour.
