My name is Janelle Evans and I am a High School teacher at Laremont School in the ELP program. This is my second year in the ELP program, but my third year working for SEDOL! I received my bachelors degree in Special Education at Illinois State University. While doing my student teaching, I was assigned a semester in the High School severe and profound program at Laremont. After graduating, I worked in the SEDOL sector program in a middle school LASSO II classroom, but have made my way back to the place where my teaching career began!
The ELP program has so many wonderful opportunities for students with severe and profound disabilities. ELP stands for exploring, learning, and participating, which is what we offer everyday to our learners! We use a multi-sensory approach to engage our students and give them opportunities for active participation. We use a wide range of low and high assistive technology so the students can be as independent as possible! We are currently utilizing the Unique curriculum which is based on the Essential Elements Standards. This gives our students access to age-appropriate content and also provides different levels of adaptations for our diverse learners. In addition, we set aside time to work on vocational tasks that will better prepare our students for the transition program and potential job opportunities after school!
Thank you for visiting my page and we are looking forward to a great year!
