Mrs. Kelly Story

I am honored to work here at Powers with your kids. I worked around the Chicagoland area for 7 years before relocating to Iowa for 9 more years, working across various ages from Early Intervention through high school and staff professional development. I returned to the Chicago area with my spouse, 2 kids and sun lovin' coonhound. I am happy to be serving at Powers with this amazing team for my 17th year teaching students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

I graduated from Missouri State University with my Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Communication Science Disorders in 2005 & 2007 and began my DHH career in August of 2007. After working alongside some amazing Deaf adults, I worked towards adding my interpreting license to ensure equal access across settings, even at work. I value the perspective language dissection brings along with my instruction for students who have hearing loss.

When I'm not working I'm typically upcycling, building, DIY-ing around our house or finding fun activities to do with my family. I love baking and often share items with my classes. I often incorporate these loves for baking and building into my lessons as kids need positive experiences to build upon. When our kids make connections their faces show us exactly why we do what we do. I love teaching in DHH.
