Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Mary Ellen Corbett
This year we are learning about many things. Thanks to the Unique Curriculum and News-2-You, we are able to a wide array of topics. This year we are learning about cooking, the solar system, famous inventors, the world of work, geography and other assorted topics. Once a month we also have an opportunity for Instructional Community Education. We enjoy such activities as grocery shopping, visiting our local library, going out to the movies, and even volunteering. Mobility trips allow our students the opportunity to practice functional lifeskills that they are learning as part of their education at Laremont. Our News-2-You also aligns with our curricular activities, and often addresses issues that are relevant and current in our society.
In addition to our monthly curriculum, we also perform assessments at the end of each unit. We have a weekly activity centering around News-2-You. On Wednesday afternoons be the students also get to participate in a choice group activity. There are three activities to choose from. We also are participating in many group activities with our peers. These activities help our students learn how to assimilate in large group settings. These experiences range from literature to music to art, and can even include cooking. At this level we also are planning for transition beyond the school years. As our students turn 14 1/2 we have written a transition plan. This plan is driven by the parent's vision of their child's future. The transition plan is a result of the combined effort of our students, educational teams, and parents working together and preparing our students to be successful lifelong learners.
