School social workers (Master Degree in Social Work – MSW) help students whose social/emotional and behavioral problems impact school performance. School social workers assist these students through early identification, prevention, intervention, counseling and support.
School Social Work Services
Helping students to:
- Cope in times of crises
- Access mental health services
- Become resilient, successful learners
- Gain personal and social competencies
Supporting parents to:
- Effectively participate in their child’s education
- Understand their child’s developmental and education needs
- Access school and community resources
- Understand special education services
- Strengthen parenting skills
Assisting educators to:
- Work effectively with parents
- Discover new resources
- Participate in the special education process
- Understand family, cultural and community factors affecting students
- Meet education outcomes for students of diverse background.
Linking schools & communities to:
- Coordinator the delivery of education and mental health services
- Develop resources to adequately meet the needs of students and families
Working with administrators to:
- Implement effective prevention programs and policies which address:
- school attendance
- alcohol & other drug abuses
- teen pregnancy
- violence
- suicide and sudden death
- child abuse and neglect
- school safety
- Ensure compliance with special education laws
Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP)
RAPP meets the third Tuesday of each month September thru May. Call Linda Amundsen (847-986-2325) for information.
