SEDOL audiologists participate in the identification of children with educationally significant hearing loss, birth through high school graduation, residing within our member school districts. Audiological evaluations are completed to determine the range, nature and degree of hearing loss, with referrals made for medical follow-up and treatment as well as appropriate educational intervention. Audiologists participate in the provision of habilitation activities, select and recommend personal hearing instruments, individual and group FM listening systems and other assistive listening technology, and evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of those devices. Audiologists also participate in the evaluation and consultation of auditory processing disorders. Additionally, audiologists provide counseling and guidance for children, parents and teachers regarding hearing loss. Audiologists also participate in the creation and administration of programs for prevention of hearing loss and can provide consultation regarding classroom acoustics.
